Located between the Tanjong Rhu and the Marine Parade neighbourhoods and minutes away from East Coast Park, Meyer Road in District 15 is a quiet and upscale residential district occupied by condominiums and private houses. Joining this exclusive cluster is MeyerHouse, an upcoming 56-unit freehold condo developed by UOL Group and Kheng Leong Co that is set for completion in the second quarter of 2021. The highlight for this condo besides its prestigious location is that each unit comes with its own private lift lobby, a major indulgence as well as a rarity in private developments in Singapore. Here’s what we think about the site and the amenities and facilities you can expect:

Background and Surroundings
Meyer Road in the 1950s and 60s was a bustling enclave known for its beachfront properties and hotels. It was following Singapore’s land reclamation works that the area became more private. Today, it is seen as one of the best residential districts in the Katong/East Coast area.

The current site for MeyerHouse was formerly owned by a low-profile Indian family who developed the land into Nanak Mansions. It comprised 36 maisonette units of 4-bedroom and 5-bedroom apartments and was eventually sold to UOL Group for $201.1 million, which works out to about $1,429 per square foot per plot ratio.

We visited the site on a weekday afternoon and enjoyed the sense of community in the area. The east of the site sits the Meyer Road Playground, a generous-sized open space. Despite the aftermath of rain, there were a group of children playing on the slides and swings, another engaging in a game of hockey, neighbours walking their dogs, and nannies gossiping over prams.
Meyer Road Playground is located just next to MeyerHouse and is set to undergo a revamp to be completed in time for the condo’s completion.
The area feels quaint, in spite of the presence of high-rise condos, as a big part of the neighbourhood is also filled with low-rise private homes. Units facing these low-rise private homes will also receive relatively unblocked views. Surrounding the northern and western sides of MeyerHouse is Jalan Nuri. It is a private stretch of road, which will ensure more privacy and exclusivity for future residents.

Design, Units and Facilities
The main architect for MeyerHouse is Singapore-based firm WOHA, which is known for many of its award-winning architectural projects including SkyVille@Dawson, a high-rise residential development featuring 12 “sky villages” (blocks) sharing ventilated gardens and other communal facilities at various levels to create a sense of cohesiveness in the community.
Communal facilities at WOHA-designed SkyVille@Dawson are located at various levels.
For MeyerHouse, WOHA will be working together with international design firms Yabu Pushelberg and Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl. To convey a sense of luxury, the firms will adapt the design from the form and grandeur of a chateau, a stately residence much like a French castle. It will be set within a single block with a total of five storeys.
MeyerHouse will take on the form of the grandeur of a chateau.
The 56 units at MeyerHouse range from 3-bedroom, 4-bedroom and penthouse units. The epitome of extravagance, these apartments will each come with their own private lift lobby.
The ground-level garden stairs within MeyerHouse is designed by Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl.
While the 153,482-square feet site can actually accommodate 203 units at around 700 sqft each, the developer’s choice to go with only 56 units mean that sizes for each of the apartments are larger than the norm. As such, the 3-bedroom units start from 1,862 sqft, 4-bedroom units start from 2,820 sqft and the penthouse units are going for around 5,587 sqft.
Each unit comes with its own private lift lobby featuring cabinets for shoe storage.
